My world sits behind my eyes
My work is based on my experience with everyday objects. I deal with things that surround me, attempting to construct images that match my aesthetic concept and reach my visual ideal of a given object. When I choose an object, I do not base my choice on inspiration or on an inexplicable feeling. The moment of choice is not one of creation; it is a moment in which I use my experienced eyes and sensibility to forge a new significance for that object. I remove its utilitarian sense and put it into my personal language. My images are rigid and static. Textures, sharpness and the relationship between the elements of the image are slowly constructed and evaluated, aiming to achieve that initial aesthetic ideal. What does this mean? Honestly, I am not the person to explain it. I simply shoot to capture what sits behind my eyes. Dan Coury
